East Durham College's Peterlee Campus at Night

About East Durham College

Our Mission is to connect people to opportunities.

The College is home to a genuine and supportive community of students and staff - we believe you won’t find a more supportive and friendlier college.

And that support leads to some great results. A high proportion of our students progress successfully into further or higher education, apprenticeships or employment. Check out our former student profiles page to see a sample of their amazing achievements or our Student Success Stories on our YouTube channel.

Students at East Durham College also develop their confidence, self-esteem and work-related skills - developing good employability skills and enhance their future opportunities.

We also have a strong focus on helping students to make a positive contribution to their communities through the community project aspect of our exciting tutorial programme. The work of our students and our Students’ Union also helps a wide range of charities and community action projects. In fact, our 14-16 Engage provision was shortlisted for the 2020 Tes FE Awards in the Contribution to the Local Community Award category.

We have a key focus on supporting students in their journey on to employment or further forms of education and training, building upon the positive and life-changing experience of studying at East Durham College.

East Durham College - Three Sites, All Creating Outstanding Futures for Our Students

East Durham College isn't just in Peterlee - did you know we actually have three different sites, each offering different course experiences for our students?

Our three sites are:

  • Our Peterlee Campus, including our sixth form, ED6 and a wide number of vocational course programmes such as business, IT, beauty, hairdressing, joinery, brickwork, sport and many more.
  • Our Houghall campus, in Durham. Founded over 80 years ago, Houghall delivers high quality, land-based education in a number of vocational pathways such as animal care, agriculture, floristry, equine, arboriculture (tree surgery) and more.
  • The Technical Academy (also in Peterlee) is a specialist, construction/engineering training environment where students learn their craft in a realistic simulation of working environment. Courses available at the Technical Academy include Electrical, Motor Vehicle Maintenance, Plumbing/Gas and more.

East Durham College's slogan is Creating Outstanding Futures, and with the quality tuition, great facilities and varied course programmes we offer our students, those who leave us really can aim high with their future career prospects.
