Hard Work Pays Off: Michael Taylor is set to compete in the second round of the British Colleges Sport football trials
East Durham College student Michael Taylor has been awarded a place in the second round of the prestigious British Colleges Sport north east football trials.
After impressing in the trials first phase, Michael, 19, from Middlesbrough, has been selected to represent the BCS north east side as part of the trials second phase which takes place at Gateshead College’s Academy for Sport on 15th November.
If Michael, who is studying on a Level 3 BTEC Sports Diploma course at the College, impresses he will then go on to compete in the national trials for a coveted place in the BCS England team.
And the centre half, who is this year captaining the College’s elite scholarship side, is optimistic about his chances to impress in the next phase.
Michael said: “This is a fantastic opportunity and it’s great just to get a chance in the second round.
“I’ve been working really hard this year to improve my game, taking on board everything the coaches at the College have had to say.
“Hopefully my hard work will come off and I will be able to impress the coaches at Gateshead.”
Ex-Sunderland striker and now East Durham College head football coach Michael Proctor is proud to see one of his students head into the next round of the BCS trials and believes Michael has the ability to advance on to the national trials.
Proctor said: “Michael worked really hard in the first round of trials and played some fantastic football.
“We had three entrants into that first round and I felt all three deserved to go through, but unfortunately only Michael made it.
“But I fully believe Michael has the ability to advance past the trials at Gateshead. He’s a real hard worker and a great performer on the pitch so if it all comes together on the day he will really impress the coaches who decide who heads to the nationals.”
