You will be able to look at jobs within the IT sector e.g. software development, website designers, IT technicians etc.
The aim of this qualification is to develop students’ skills in preparation for entry to the IT industry.
This qualification is ideal for those who have not decided on a specialism, as this qualification provides training in software development, website development and how technology works.
Guest speakers, trips, work experience activities and visits are all part of the curriculum.
Candidates should possess four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including Maths and English. Candidates should have a basic IT knowledge and enthusiasm for the subject.
Entry onto any course at East Durham College is subject to final approval from the Assistant Principal. Where relevant, the term ‘entry requirements’ also includes DBS checks, references, fitness to practice, etc.
Our entry requirements are in place to support our students in achieving the qualifications they have chosen to study. Following changes in the assessment and grading of GCSE’s as a result of Covid-19, all new full-time students will be regularly assessed by East Durham College at an early stage in their study programme. This is to ensure that students are enrolled onto courses which suit their abilities – following assessment, there may be occasions when learners are transferred to a relevant course at a higher or lower level in order to ensure they are enrolled onto the right course for them to achieve success.
You will study the following topics:
• Software development (apps)
• Website development
• The online world
• Multimedia product development (animations)
• Database development
• A digital portfolio
Assessments will take place via the completion of assignments/tasks to demonstrate candidate competence. Assessments will be graded pass, merit or distinction. There are two units which are assessed through external exams.
1 Year This full time study programme courses may also be available to study on a part-time basis if you are aged 18 or over on 31st August. Please check with Student Services for more details.
