Rag Rugs (Crafts) - College Certificate
Lorna King, has taught for many years in further education, with families, and in one to one sessions. She enjoys helping people to create, develop confidence and skills using textiles, hand and machine stitch, rag rugs, knitting, papers, paint, folding, manipulating and much more. She now has the pleasure of teaching workshops for East Durham College where you will all be able to take home a personal piece of work that you have designed and made.
Her workshops aim to be creative and fun. Beginners, intermediate and confident abilities, all are welcome. A lot of her personal work is made with recycled materials and objects but you may use your own personal stash!
No entry requirements
Learn the basics of rug making using a proddy or a hook. This technique is a great way to recycle fabrics, blankets, clothes and wool to create your rug or wall hanging. These techniques can also be turned into cushions, bags, accessories or 3D objects. Great technique to involve the whole family, cutting clippie pieces and designing the piece.
Requirements for this workshop include
scissors or rotary cutter, a proddy and some hessian for the backing, which could also be recycled from old coffee sacks. Fabric, wool and possibly a frame or large embroidery hoop. There will be hessian available for a small charge but I will also have lots of recycled fabric, wool and felt for you to get creative with. I will also have some frames and proddy`s for you to try out.
