The 'Creative Styling' School Links Competition 2009 This year’s competition was held at Kirkley Hall, Northumberland on 28th April 2009. The competition was organised by Northumberland College specifically for 14-16 trainee hairdressers and beauty therapists.

Colleges from all over the North East competed. East Durham sent a strong team of their 14-16 year old hairdressing students.

Students competed across a number of different hair and beauty categories, such as; Hair by Days, Creative Styling on a Mannequin Head, Evening Elegance, Party Style hair and make-up.

These involved students working on costume, hair, nails and make-up. Once again the East Durham Teams performed exceptionally well, winning 10 medals for the third year running. There were two golds. One for Nadine Watson of Seaham School  (Year 10) in Creative Styling and one for Stacey Lockey Wellfield School (Year 11) with her model Gemmalee Forster in Hair by Days.

Arlene Morley, Curriculum Manger for Hair & Beauty commented, ‘The students and staff work really hard in preparing for the competition and we try each year to have as many competitors and models involved in the process, our local schools gave maximum support in the run up to the event and the results each year are amazing, well done to all.’
