A Cut Above - Shane Brown Wins Prestigious Place at Salon International Barbering Finals
It's a big well done from all of us at East Durham College to Shane Brown, student of the college and barbering superstar, as he prepares for a contest on Monday 16th October at Salon International in London.
Shane, 27, will compete against other young barberers from across the UK. He was selected as one of the six finalists who will compete at the event after fierce competition from other colleges across the UK and he will be taking part in the Men's Cut and Finish Category.
Salon International is the biggest event in the hairdressing and barbering world, taking place every year down in London. The City and Guilds competition is sponsored by Hairdresser’s Journal, one of the biggest hair magazines in the industry.
Alison Scattergood, Barbering Lecturer at East Durham College, said: “To be cutting hair live at Salon International is a massive achievement for a student.
“As Shane’s lecturer I am very proud of what he has achieved so far in his career; he will go far and I look forward to seeing him shine.”
Shane has been with East Durham College for 1 year and recently completed his Level 2 barbering course. He returned this year to study for his Level 3 qualification and has shown excellent commitment to the course, never missing a session during his time here.
He has also gained employment at House of Gentlemen, a barber shop in Durham, where he now runs his own column. Shane has gained many new skills from his employment and his time at the college and continues to go from strength-to-strength.
Shane is also thrilled with his place at the contest and said: “It’s great to be going to Salon International to compete.
“It may be a bit cheesy, but I actually have a life motto: keep smashing goals and dreams will follow!”
From all of us at EDC, we wish you the very best of luck in the contest Shane. Smash it!
