DL NCFE CACHE Level 3 Certificate in Understanding the Principles of Dementia Care
There are 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK today, with this number expected to rise to over one million by 2025. The Level 3 Certificate in Understanding the Principles of Dementia Care enables learners to develop knowledge and understanding of caring for individuals with dementia. It allows learners to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of dementia and its effects. Learners will gain an understanding of the types of dementia, the importance of early diagnosis and the role of communication, interaction and inclusion in dementia care and support.
• Aged 19+ (born before 01/09/2001)
• Not hold a full level 3 qualification, your highest qualification will be a level 2
• Lived in the UK continuously for 3 years
• Not currently completing a distance learning course with us, or any other training provider
• Not live in an area of the UK with a devolved government (this will be checked by our team upon application)
Entry onto any course at East Durham College is subject to final approval from the Assistant Principal. Where relevant, the term ‘entry requirements’ also includes DBS checks, references, fitness to practice, etc.

• How person-centred approaches are used to underpin the care and support of individuals with dementia
• Supporting positive interaction, occupation and activity in dementia
• Equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care and support
• How to support individuals with dementia to exercise choice and rights
• The administration of medication and well-being of individuals with dementia
This course is only available online via our eLearning Assessor portal, it is not available in paper format.
When we have received your completed enrolment paperwork, it is checked and processed, a Tutor is allocated, and a further email will be sent with your joining instructions, this will entail your start and end date, submission dates and Tutor contact details, you will also be advised of the weblink and your unique username to enable you to login into our E-assessor portal. Your assigned Tutor is there to offer help and guidance, they are there for you to contact direct if you need any assistance with your course content. Your first assessment is required to be completed within 6 weeks, as a guidance you should allow, at the very least 5-6 hours a week to answer questions and meet target dates. Your feedback from your Tutor will be online via E-assessor (located in “My Portfolio”).
You will have 24 weeks from enrolling to complete the course, this duration includes Tutor feedback, IQA and internal processes. Your first assessment is due within 6 weeks of your start date. This course is only available online via our eLearning Assessor portal, it is not available in paper format. Everything is done remotely via post or email, including tutor support.
This course is learner lead, meaning you start after you have completed the enrolment paperwork and you have received an email stating your start and submission details etc.

Our distance learning courses are free upon completion. Your first assessment submission is due within 6 weeks of your start date, if you fail to submit you will be withdrawn and invoiced £100 as per the EDC fees policy.
