Overview of the course: 

This qualification is designed to provide students with an understanding of the requirements of grooming different dog breeds and types of coat, and the necessary skills to perform dog grooming and salon management activities.

Learners will be trained to use a variety of grooming equipment and increase their own knowledge of grooming styles. Additionally learners will gain an understanding of canine first aid and the health and wellbeing of different dog breeds, and have the opportunity to gain competence in the workplace communicating with clients, which is an essential skill for the industry.

Entry requirements: 

Ideally learners will have gained a relevant Level 2 Qualification in Dog Grooming to gain entry onto the Level 3 course.

Other industry experience and skills may be considered for entry onto the course however this is at the discretion of the course manager and will be dependent on a competency assessment.

There are some aspects of the Houghall site which are not fully accessible and would cause an issue for those with limited mobility or wheelchair users; due to the nature of the site, adjustments may not always be reasonable at this stage. How is the course assessed?: 

The course will be assessed by a portfolio of work incorporating both theory and practical work.

Further study options after this course: 

Potential progression onto a relevant Level 4 qualification in Dog Grooming, or similar subjects.

Length of the course: 

The course is offered on a part time basis over the course of the academic year.

Delivery will include both in class theory and practical sessions in Houghall's Animal Care Unit and Dog Grooming Studio.

Fees: 

The course fees for the OCNWM Level 3 Certificate in Dog Grooming are £3,200, with a £500 non-refundable deposit payable on or before enrolment.

The remaining course fees of £2,700 are payable in full; payment plans can be arranged.
