Student and young entrepreneur Kirsty Fishwick has won a national competition which has seen her awarded with a fantastic work placement experience.
Kirsty, 19, from Peterlee, who attends East Durham College’s Peter Jones Enterprise Academy (PJEA), is getting set to move to Surrey for four weeks to work with GfK Group, one of the world’s largest market research companies.
The teenager won the coveted work placement after competing against a number of other PJEA students from across the country.
The students had to apply for the role with a professional CV and covering letter and after being impressed by Kirsty’s application she received a telephone interview.
And after an informal interview which Kirsty discussed the role and ideas with the company she was offered the placement which she quickly accepted.
Kirsty said: “It was a fantastic opportunity, so I worked really hard on my preparations for the initial stage and was really happy to get the opportunity of an interview.
“The interview was really positive and I discussed why I was interested in the placement and what I hoped to gain from my time with GfK.
“It was fantastic to hear I had got the placement. It is a huge opportunity and I can’t wait to get down there in April and get started.”
And representatives from GfK praised Kirsty for her impressive view of the company and believe Kirsty will benefit from the exciting opportunity.
Catherine Roberson, HR Manager for GfK Retail and Technology UK, said: “GfK is one of the largest market research companies in the world, offering powerful insights into consumer goods markets with data from the world's largest retail network, reporting what’s selling where, at what rate.
“Kirsty was successful in her application for the student placement with us based in our UK office. In early discussions Kirsty clearly articulated why she was interested in us and what she would gain from the valuable experience.
“This unique opportunity, which will be in the very successful, fast paced Consumer Electronics team, will give Kirsty a real understanding of a highly commercial environment where our market experts are the best in the world at converting data into actionable insights, working with our clients to advise, guide and find opportunities to help grow their business.”
PJEA lecturer Jill Campbell is proud to see Kirsty receive the chance to go and work with GfK and believes the placement will really help her further her skills and knowledge in business.
Jill said: “GfK is a major company and Kirsty has done really well to be selected for the placement.
“Kirsty will be able to take a lot away from this placement and she will get some fantastic opportunities to work with a host of talented people that will only better her skills for the future.
“I am really proud of what Kirsty has achieved already and I am sure she will go to Surrey and be a fantastic representative for the College.”
