East Durham College Announces Range of Apprenticeships with Sunderland City Council

Tue, 13/07/2021 - 14:05

East Durham College is partnering with Sunderland City Council to offer apprenticeships in a range of land-based disciplines.

15 vacancies have been announced working on the city’s seafront, award-winning green flag parks, flowers around the community and some of the city’s sporting grounds for football and cricket.

Applicants can look forward to the level 2 positions in horticulture, fine turf, and arboriculture (tree surgery), offering apprentices the chance to look after some of Sunderland’s best attractions.

The apprenticeships will last 21-22 months with learners spending 1 day a week at East Durham College’s Houghall campus learning the theory behind the practical work they’re doing.

Celebrating the vacancies, Sunderland City Council Deputy Leader, Claire Rowntree told the Sunderland Echo “Apprenticeships provide great opportunities for people of all ages, at any stage of their career. We see them as an integral part of our workforce strategy and as a career development opportunity for people of all ages.”

"Many of our apprentices go on to a further apprenticeship, secure a job with the council or use the skills and training they gained to do other things. I'd encourage anyone who is interested to apply.”
