Students at East Durham College have held a wellbeing day at the Peterlee Campus as part of National Apprenticeship Week (9-13 Mar 2015).
The day saw students from the College’s Hair and Beauty department show off the skills they have learnt both at college and out on their apprenticeship placements.
The students offered treatments such as Indian head massages, haircuts, hot towel shave and facial massage to fellow students, college staff and visitors.
The aim of the event was to celebrate and showcase apprenticeships and the level of success that learners can achieve.
National Apprenticeship Week is co-ordinated by the National Apprenticeship Service and is designed to celebrate apprenticeships and the positive impact they have on individuals, businesses and the wider economy.
East Durham College hairdressing lecturer and Wellbeing Day organiser Sandra Joyce hailed the day as a huge success.
Sandra said: “We thought it would be a great idea to be able to bring in our apprentices from their placements and give them the opportunity to show off their skills to the whole of the College.
“Our apprentices here work really hard both on courses at East Durham College and out on their placements, so we really wanted to showcase what they can do and also what apprenticeships can do.
“Everyone around the College got involved and came to see what was happening, it was a fantastic event.”
