East Durham College are delighted to announce that their Houghall Campus has been chosen to host the prestigious Young Farmers’ Northern Area Field Day Competition on Saturday 18th June 2011.
The event sees the northern counties of England compete against each other; Northumberland, Durham, Yorkshire, Cumbria and Lancashire, and the Isle of Man, to see who goes forward to the National finals.
It is expected that more than 500 young farmers from a number of clubs will take part in the day competing in 40 events.
Events include farm livestock judging, Land Rover driving competitions, health and safety competitions, sports events and craft and display events. The highlight as always will be the Tug of war(both male and female)
This is a highly prestigious event and is a real sign of the re-emergence of Houghall as a major part of farming and land based industries within the County of Durham and further afield.
Houghall Farm Manager Peter Whitfield said: “We are absolutely delighted that after a long absence from Houghall, the organising committee have decided to utilise the great resources that we have on-site for this very important part of the Young Farmers calendar.
“We are hoping to work much closer with the Durham County Federation to help promote British agriculture, and its workforce, as the finest in the world - producing premium quality foods that show the highest standards of care and welfare."
