East Durham College to Launch New College Bus Routes from Darlington and Durham

From September 2021, East Durham College will be offering a new, ED5, bus route directly from Darlington to its Houghall Campus in Durham. The new service will also pick-up in Harrowgate Hill, Aycliffe Village, Woodham, Chilton, Kirk Merrington, Spennymoor and Tudhoe.
The service will then become the ED3 to take students from the west of the county from the Houghall Campus bus stop over to its Peterlee Campus in time for the start of the college day.
The new college bus routes will further complement the existing ED1, 2, 3 and 4 services that East Durham College already offers, covering other parts of North East, setting off from Consett, Sunderland and Washington.
East Durham College has a long-standing partnership with Arriva to provide free bus travel to its students. Students simply show their EDC student ID card to board any general Arriva bus service, as well as the dedicated ED services, and their travel to and from college is free of charge.
Suzanne Duncan, Principal of East Durham College, is delighted to further expand the free travel options available for students. She said: “With students wanting to come to study at our Peterlee and Houghall campuses from an increasingly wide area it’s important for us to make sure we make it as simple and safe as we can for them to get to our college sites.
“With the new ED5 service, and additional ED3, students from Darlington and the south west of the county will be able to get directly to all our campuses more quickly, in time for the start of the day.
“This route will be particularly useful for students wishing to study at our Houghall campus in Durham – we are the only college in the county offering specialist land-based courses such as animal care and agriculture, and with this new bus route, students will find us more accessible as an option to come and study at.”
