East Durham College Launches New Sports Scholarships

East Durham College is delighted to announce the launch of a selection of new elite sports scholarships, starting from the next academic year.

The College has announced, that in addition to its highly successful men’s football and rugby scholarships which have run since 2011, students will now be offered the chance to join elite boxing scholarships for men and women as well as an elite scholarship in women’s football.

The new ‘Strike it Right’ Boxing Academy is set to open in September and is aimed at male and female students, aged 16 to 18, who are at an advanced level in boxing and are looking to develop their skills to a national standard and beyond.

The new scholars can study on any full time academic qualification at the College’s Peterlee Campus.

All applicants to the programme will be assessed by Tyne & Wear and England ABA coach David Binns who will head up the exciting new scholarship programme.

David, fresh back from Saturday night’s success with his pro boxer Glenn Foot at Sky’s Betfair Prizefighter Welterweight III tournament in Wolverhampton, said: “This is a totally unique programme tailored to the individual needs of talented sports men and women within the boxing circuit. I am really looking forward to working with them and of course their clubs.”

Again the women’s elite football academy will be available to 16 to 18 year olds.

All the elite sport scholarships at East Durham College offers students a whole host of benefits including expert coaching, personal fitness development, performance analysis, in-house physiotherapy, competition preparation, free  training kit and even a free laptop computer.
