Principal Steps Down

Following last week’s Board meeting it was with great regret that the Board accepted Ian Prescott’s early retirement. Ian will step down as Principal and Chief Executive of East Durham College on 31st December 2009.
After 14 years at the helm, and overseeing the highly successful build and move into the fantastic new facilities at Willerby Gove, Ian felt it was the right time to look for a new challenge. At this stage that challenge is yet to be decided.
Ian said, “It has been an absolute pleasure and privilege to work with so many talented people over my time at the College and I’m really proud of the shape the College is in. It will be business as usual and I’m really looking forward to an exciting Autumn term.”
The Board has asked Ian to lead the recruitment process for his replacement. The post will be advertised in mid September and interviews will be held in November, with the replacement hopefully starting in January 2010. If this process is held up for any reason, Ian will delay his departure to ensure the College don’t have any period without a Principal in post.
Ian Williams, Chair of the Corporation, added, “I will be very sad indeed to see Ian leave. His contribution to the College and the local community has been immense. It’s been an honour to work with him, over the last 14 years, and to call him a friend. His boots will be very large to fill, but I’m sure we will find a new leader with the same passion and foresight to lead us into the next phase of our development.”
