Ryan Hepple, aged 16, from Easington Lane, was recently selected and represented Division 1 (North East & Cumbria) at the English Schools National Swimming Championship 2010, which this year was held in Watford on 29th & 30th October.
Ryan, who is studying at East Durham College, Peterlee, on a Level 3 Sport and Exercise Diploma, was delighted to be selected and take part at the English Schools.
Ryan said: “I was pleased to make the final in the 100m backstroke at the Championships, despite not getting a PB (Personnel Best), but was disappointed not to be selected for the breaststroke which is my preferred event. But it was a great experience and fantastic that the North East Team managed to finish third overall.”
Paul Simpson, Divisional 1 North East & Cumbria Team Manager, said: “Ryan was selected ahead of hundreds of swimmers, which was a huge achievement in itself.”
Ryan is now looking forward to taking part in the ASA North East Regional Open & Bagcat Short Course Championships being held in Sunderland this weekend and will then target his favoured event of breaststroke at the ASA Nationals to be held in the Summer of 2011.
