Report by Peter Jones Enterprise Academy students Daniel Robinson and Steven Wright, pictured above, as part of their work experience.
Friday saw the students and staff at East Durham College taking part in numerous sporting events to help raise money for this year’s Sports Relief.
The sporting events saw teams of students and staff compete in volleyball, futsal, basketball, badminton, table tennis, handball, short tennis, 7-a-side football, touch rugby, relay games and a tug of war.
The events started at 9:00am and didn’t finish until 4:00pm, showing just how much effort the students and staff put into a great day. The teams donated £1 per member to participate, and that money along with a raffle helped to raise a fantastic £230.
We spoke to some of the students who were participating in the event, asking them what they thought of the day.
Elliot Monaghan, 18, from Easington, who studies on a level two sports diploma, said: “It was spot on. It’s really good what everyone’s doing for those less fortunate than themselves, helping give them a better future.”
Kyle Roland, 19, from Seaham, studying a level two business course, added: “It’s been really hard work. But it’s great what we’ve done and in the end it’s all worth it. I am really pleased I took part and happy to be a part of it!”
The students and staff thoroughly enjoyed taking part in raising money for this wonderful charity and hope that their effort helps to make a big difference in other people’s lives.
