A group of college students got the chance to learn some new skills from rugby professionals.
Duana Straugheir and Richard Tate from Bradford Bulls visited East Durham College in Peterlee to do some rugby league coaching with the students.
18 students who are on the College’s Elite Scholarship Programme took part.
Student Colin Coulson, 17, from Prudhoe said: “I really enjoyed it, I thought I picked up some good knowledge and new skills that I can use in both Rugby League and Union. I am really looking forward to playing a game down in Bradford.”
Rose Fraser, Sports Development Officer at the College said “The aim of the partnership with the Bradford Bulls has put another piece of the jigsaw together in delivering a high quality programme with an elite progression pathway with the Bulls and other scholarship programmes.
“Also increasing participation to both male and female players across the North East is giving local clubs the opportunity to access specialist coaching clinics. This adds to our aim of becoming the most outstanding sports provider in the country.”
Ryan Ducket – Bradford Bulls Chief Executive and Chair of Trustees, said: “Developing links with East Durham College is a fantastic way for the Bulls to engage with the wider community, delivering beneficial grassroots programmes with local amateur rugby clubs.
“It will also offer high quality coaching to the College’s rugby team and new opportunities to rugby league newcomers. The Durham area has some real rugby talent and we hope to one day see one of the College’s players running out for the Bulls! We are sure this new partnership will grow rugby league and attract new players to the College.”
