Engage (Pre-16) Direct Recruitment
Engage (Pre-16) Direct Recruitment is for young people aged 14-16 who, if accepted, will be directly recruited to the College. The focus of this full-time provision is to support young people who are not benefitting from, nor progressing within, a mainstream school setting and are at risk of permanent exclusion.
They will study maths, English and science, Personal Social and Health Education, PE (enrichment). Engage 14-16 students also choose from a range of vocational options, including motor vehicle engineering, hair and beauty, construction and catering.
This provision operates in much the same way as mainstream school in that students attend five days a week, from 9am to 3pm, during normal term time.
Students cannot apply directly to the Engage (Pre-16) Direct Recruitment programme, the College only accepts referrals from local schools and/or academies. Referral can also be made by the local authority, again for those students that are at risk of permanent exclusion.
AoC Beacon Awards Commended College
Our Engage 14-16 provision was commended as part of the 2019 Association Of Colleges Beacon Awards in the Support for Students category.
This commendation demonstrated that EDC had met the AoC Beacon Standard 2019/20. The award seeks to celebrate outstanding examples of student support provided by a college for a significant group of students, which is above and beyond what is the ‘norm’.
