Overview of the course: 

This qualification is aimed at students who intend to follow an Intermediate Apprenticeship and Advanced Modern Apprenticeship programmes who are considering a career in engineering that offers the chance to be part of a discipline that revolutionises the world we live in.
It involves gaining additional skills and knowledge and provides the technical certificate qualification for the Apprenticeship in Engineering Level 2.

Entry requirements: 

Minimum of 5 GCSE's Must be Maths grade 3-9 and English grade 3-9.

Our entry requirements are in place to support our students in achieving the qualifications they have chosen to study. Following changes in the assessment and grading of GCSE’s as a result of Covid-19, all new full-time students will be regularly assessed by East Durham College at an early stage in their study programme. This is to ensure that students are enrolled onto courses which suit their abilities – following assessment, there may be occasions when learners are transferred to a relevant course at a higher or lower level in order to ensure they are enrolled onto the right course for them to achieve success.

How is the course assessed?: 

You will be assessed through two practical assignments completed in our industrial standard workshop, three written exams and two on-line exams.

Further study options after this course: 

This leads to direct entry onto the City & Guilds Diploma Level 3 which also forms the Technical requirement for the Advanced Apprenticeship.

Length of the course: 

1 Year, Full Time This full time study programme courses may also be available to study on a part-time basis if you are aged 18 or over on 31st August. Please check with Student Services for more details.

City & Guilds Group Bursaries
C&G run their own bursary programme to help people who are financially unable to complete one of their qualifications. They award bursaries twice a year for people who wish to study for a City & Guilds qualification, but lack the funds. Their bursaries are grants that cover costs arising as a result of taking one of their qualifications which can include course and/or exam fees, learning materials, travel and childcare.
