East Durham College student Alise Gray recently won the Equine Award at the College’s May Student Awards ceremony.

Alise, 16, from South Shields, is studying on a Level 1 Diploma in Land Based Studies.

Alise Tutor Felicity Evens said: "Alise has 100% attendance and punctuality. She always completes written tasks either before or no later than the hand in date. Alise always tries her best and goes above and beyond requirements to complete both in class and practical tasks. She is polite, hard working and always arrives on time and in correct PPE ready to work and learn.

"In the classroom Alise always completes tasks given and throughout the year she has grown in confidence and now participates in group discussions.  Practically Alise is very aware of health and safety on the yard and works quietly and sensibly around the horses. She asks for help when necessary but can work confidently both individually and in a group, as she gets on with all group members."

Felicity added: "Alise is a polite girl to be around, and always tries her hardest whether she is in lessons or doing practical work on the yard.  A pleasure to teach."
