A Durham based college rugby team is over the moon to have received a cash injection from a new sponsorship deal.
East Durham College’s Elite Rugby Team, which is based at the College’s Houghall Campus in Durham, has been sponsored in a one year deal by a leading north east fuel distribution business.
Par Petroleum, a family owned business, based in Houghton-Le-Spring, has sponsored the team and the funds have been used to purchase new playing kit by top rugby clothing brand Canterbury.
Head Rugby Coach at East Durham College, Liam Gumbrill, said: “We have never had sponsorship for our rugby squad in the past so are delighted to set up this new deal. We are immensely grateful to the generosity of Par Petroleum.”
Par Petroleum distributes Jet Petroleum products and solid fuels throughout North East England.
“We believe that supporting young people in sports from the grass roots is essential, not just for the future of our national teams but also to encourage health and fitness into our culture,” said Peter Roy-Toole, Managing Director of Par Petroleum Ltd.
“East Durham College has got some real rising stars who could well be future big names in British rugby and we’re thrilled to be able to support them,” he added.
A number of the successful East Durham College squad have had trails and represented the county, the north east, the north of England and England Colleges.
Sean Brown, aged 17 from Prudhoe, and Joe Arrowsmith, aged 18 from Ryhope, will play for England Colleges against Leicester Tigers Academy Team at the Tiger’s Welford Road Stadium on Sunday 5th February.
