Fancy A Second Chance In Education?

After your school years, you may have wanted to escape education forever. However, if you’re aged 19 or over and want a second chance in education and to maybe get into university, attending an Access to Higher Education course could be the ideal solution for you.

Jacqui Lee, Head of Access Studies at East Durham College, explains: “The part-time Access to HE programme is designed to give you that second chance in education.

“They are a yearlong course which give you the opportunity to gain the entry requirements needed to progress onto university level study or to re-start your career.

“They aim to build confidence, develop study and written skills and they can offer you the opportunity to improve your Maths and English.”

But before you embark on this level 3 qualification, East Durham College are offering a specially designed Pre-Access course.

“Our Pre-Access course runs for 12 weeks and is a great way to prepare you for the main course and to see which areas of study you want to pursue. It will also give you a Level 2 qualification too.

“And the good news is there are no formal entry requirements to study on the Pre-Access programme – just the passion to succeed and work hard,” Jacqui said.

You must have been aged 19 or over on 1st September 2012 to enrol.

They are still a few places left on the Pre-Access course which starts on Monday 15th April, and once successfully completed it will give you the entry requirements needed to join the full Level 3 Access programme which starts in September.

The Level 3 programme at East Durham College is available in seven career pathways; Children & Young People, Land Based Studies, Social Science & Youthwork, Humanities, Health & Social Care, Education and finally Forensic Science.

Jacqui added: “Whether you’re looking to change job, return to work, boost your career prospects or gain a full Honours degree; the Access programme can offer you that chance.”
