Ready to challenge for a national spot (L-R) - East Durham College Rugby Scholars Lee Little, Daniel Wilson, Liam Armstrong, Adam Keeler and Oliver Gray
Five talented rugby players from East Durham College’s rugby scholarship programme have been selected to represent the prestigious North of England College’s squad in two upcoming fixtures.
Hooker Adam Keeler, 18, from Consett, Second Row Lee Little, 18, from Blaydon, Back Row Liam Armstrong, 18, from Hartlepool, Fly Half Oliver Gray, 17, from Bishop Auckland and Winger Daniel Wilson, 18, from Peterlee have all been selected to represent the side after a successful trial at Hartlepool.
The lads will join a 24-man squad made up of players from other colleges based in County Durham, Teesside, Tyne & Wear and Lancaster.
The fixtures are set to take place in Telford on January 12th, where the North will take on two other English regional sides; with the games acting as trials for this year’s England Colleges rugby squad.
And the lads will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of former teammates and East Durham College students Joe Arrowsmith and Nathan Horsfall who made the England College’s squads in 2011 and 2012 respectively.
East Durham College’s head rugby coach Gary Beck believes that all the representatives from the College have a great chance of advancing to represent the national side.
Gary said: “All the boys have done really well to advance this far in the trials.
“They are all great players and have worked really hard so far this year to improve their game and push themselves to the next level.
“Advancing to the national squad is definitely a possibility for all the lads. As long as they perform to their potential on the day, which I’m sure they will.”
