Following successful completion of this course you continue onto the Level 2 Diploma or gain employment in the land-based sector as an assistant florist. Progression to an apprenticeship in the floristry industry may also be an option to enable you to gain more experience working hands-on.

Overview of the course: 

You will cover a mixture of theory and practical topics and get hands-on experience working in the Houghall floristry department and plant centre. You will produce seasonal floral arts and designs e.g. Christmas flowers and valentines flowers.

No formal entry requirements.

Topics: 

Topics covered in the course include: work experience and safe working practices, flower care, presentation and hand tied design, floral arrangements and art and design.

How is the course assessed?: 

You will be assessed throughout the course with written assignments and practical assessments and external multiple choice exam in art & design.

Further study options after this course: 

Progression options following successful completion of this course may enable you to progress onto the level 2 diploma in floristry, level 2 apprenticeship or into employment within the industry.

Fees: 

If you have been a UK resident for the past 3 years and are under the age of 19 on the 31st August, you will not usually need to pay any course fees.

If you are aged 19-23 on the day your main course starts and do not have a level 2 or above qualification you may not have any fees to pay.

If you do have a level 2 or above qualification or you are aged 24 years or over and employed on the day your main course starts fees for this course are payable. However if you are in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance or Employment Support Allowance in the Work Related Activity Group or other work related benefit and you are undertaking this qualification to find work, your fees may be paid by the Government.

Fees may apply for equipment costs for all students, however financial help may be available. Further information will be sent to you closer to enrolment in August if you are accepted on to the course.

Material costs: Please note any student aged 19 or over will be required to purchase their own materials to use on this course. Materials are required regularly throughout the course and the costs of these will fluctuate on a weekly basis depending on the topics covered each week. We estimate, when averaged out over the course, a guide cost of approximately £20 per week (x36 weeks = £720). This materials cost estimate is only a guide and will vary depending on the learner’s choice of designs, source of materials and budget. Students may be eligible for 19+ Discretionary Learner Support to help towards the costs of materials, please speak to Student Services for more details.
