Overview of the course: 

This course aims to develop your knowledge and skills to prepare you for progression onto our City & Guilds Level 2 Technical Certificate in Floristry, which is an industry recognised qualification.

If you like to interact with others, be creative and are keen to develop practical, technical floristry skills, then this qualification is for you.

Through this qualification you will learn that there is more to floristry than flowers. For florists to bemsuccessful, they need to understand their tools, botanical materials, environment and the finishing touches that make a difference. During this course you willm be introduced to the elements and principles of design and the skills needed to apply these to your practical work.

You will gain an understanding of the skills and knowledge that are important when you are working in a floristry setting, or progressing to further learning and training in this area.

This qualification is suitable if you are 19 years old, or over.

Entry requirements: 

You must have completed NCFE Level 1 Award in Creative Crafts (Floristry).

Floristry can be quite physically demanding, you are likely to be on your feet all day in cool environments (it keeps the flowers fresh!).

Entry onto any course at East Durham College is subject to final approval from the Assistant Principal. Where relevant, the term ‘entry requirements’ also includes DBS checks, references, fitness to practice, etc.

Topics: 

Topics covered in the course include: safe working practices, care and conditioning of botanical materials, introduction to design theory, creative skill application, arrangements and hand tied designs.

How is the course assessed?: 

Internally, through use of portfolio evidence.

Further study options after this course: 

Progression options following successful completion of this course may enable you to progress onto the level 2 Technical Certificate in Floristry.

Length of the course: 

15 weeks
3 hours per week, with evening or daytime options available

Free if you are under the age of 19 on the 31st August 2020

Free if you are under 25 on the 31st August 2020 with a statement of Special Educational Needs or an Education, Health and Care Plan

Free if you are aged 19-23 on 31st August 2020 and do not already have a full Level 2 qualification – contact us to check your qualifications

Free if you are unemployed and in receipt of eligible benefits – contact us to check if you are eligible

Free if you are employed and your income is less than £17,004

If you do not meet the above criteria and need to pay fees they are:
