Florist, Senior florist, Florist shop manager. This qualification is for you if you want to work in the floristry industry. It provides you with all the skills required to either become employed or to start your own business.

Overview of the course: 

You will study a range of topics which will provide you the necessary skills and knowledge to progress into employment in the floristry industry. You will study creative floral design methods and techniques, botany and business skills. On top of that, you will cover in detail how to produce a range of designs, including tied designs, wired designs, glued designs and designs in different mediums. You will study how to produce floral designs for different events, such as weddings and funerals. You will also learn about current and future design development and innovation in floristry.

Entry requirements: 

Must have completed Level 2 Diploma in Floristry or have 5 years experience in the industry. 5 x GCSEs grade 9-4 required, including Maths & English. This is a professional floristry qualification and applicants must be prepared to undertake 150 hours industry experience as part of this qualification. Entry onto any course at East Durham College is subject to final approval from the Assistant Principal. Where relevant, the term ‘entry requirements’ also includes DBS checks, references, fitness to practice, etc. East Durham College's Houghall Campus is committed to providing a supportive and welcoming environment for all our students. The campus, some of which is over 80 years old, has seen over £40m invested in new facilities over the last 4 years. However, there are still some aspects of the site which are not fully accessible and would cause an issue for those with limited mobility or wheelchair users; and due to the nature of the site, adjustments may not always be reasonable at this stage. The College is committed to further investment and improvements of the site, as we work towards ensuring the campus is as accessible as possible. External written exam followed by a practical synoptic assessment and written report. 150 hours Industry Placement

Further study options after this course: 

Progression options following successful completion of this course may enable you to progress onto the Level 4 Diploma in Floristry.

Fees for this course are;

Free if you are under the age of 19 on the 31st August 2021

Free if you are aged 19-23 on 31st August 2021 and do not already have a full Level 3 qualification – contact us to check your qualifications

Loan funded if you already have a full level 3 qualification or are aged 24 and over on 31st August 2021 - contact us to check your qualifications and for details of how to apply for an Adult Learner loan, which you won’t have to start repaying until you earn over £25,725 per annum.
