Former East Durham College student Charlotte Brown has been impressing with her football skills in America.
Charlotte, 19, from Medomsley near Consett, started playing football at the age of 9 before joining the College after leaving school, where she became Women’s Football team captain for Team East Durham.
She successfully completed a sports studies course at the College’s Peterlee Campus before being helped by the College to win a highly prized scholarship to play football in the US at Bethel University in Tennessee.
Unlike in the UK where women’s football, although on a steady rise with big crowds turning out to watch Team GB at the 2012 Olympics, the sport in the States has always had a huge following which has seen competition for places on these scholarships become very tough.
But Charlotte, now in her second year at Bethel is going from strength to strength. And as her second season comes to an end, Charlotte has helped her side to a successful season picking up 12 wins out of a possible 18.
Let’s hope she can keep progressing in the game that she loves whilst having an amazing adventure.
