East Durham College’s new Technical Academy is offering free courses in construction skills to anyone who is 19+ and unemployed – plus a 2 day taster course for anyone aged 16 to 18.

For those aged 16 to 18 the two day taster course will give you a chance to try out a range of trades including plastering, tiling, plumbing and kitchen & bathroom fitting. Courses are running throughout the summer.

You will also achieve a recognised qualification in Health & Safety, learning how to identify hazards and control risk. This will improve your chances of gaining future employment in the trade.

For the unemployed there is the opportunity to enrol on the 10-week Certificate in Building Craft Occupations course.

The course includes an introduction to a range of building skills including plastering, tiling, joinery, basic plumbing, bricklaying and painting & decorating.

You will study for 15 hours a week and gain new skills in trades with good job prospectus.

The 10 week course starts soon but there are limited free places so early enrolment is recommended.

The Technical Academy is located in a 37,000 sq. ft. purpose-build facility on Peterlee’s South West Industrial Estate. The Academy offers a top quality training environment in a range of construction trades using the latest products and equipment.
