Gavin Goldsbrough has received a Student of the Month award for his work on his animal studies course at East Durham College this month.

Gavin, 17, from Sunderland picked up the award this month ahead of over 100 other animal care students who study at East Durham College’s Houghall Campus.

John Walshaw, lecturer in animal studies praised Gavin for the dedication and hard work he had put into the course in his first year at the College.

John said: “Gavin always displays enthusiasm for the work and he has demonstrated commitment in both theory and practical aspects of the course and has already secured himself work placements for Easter and the summer periods at a Kennels and two different Veterinary practices.

“Gavin initially was quiet and tended to work alone but now has integrated particularly well within the group of learners and has a very organised approach to group work activities.

“Gavin has really come out of his shell and is making a really positive contribution to the course and college.”
