General Election Voter Registration Event

We are pleased to announce that we have secured funding of £5000 from the Cabinet Office to host voter registration events at all 3 of our campuses to encourage students to vote in the General Election.
We are planning a big voter registration event on Monday 20 April, which is the final day people can register to vote. We are also working closely with New College Durham and Stockton Riverside College alongside Durham University to coordinate these events and encourage more young people within the area to vote.
Leigh Spanner, academic affairs officer at Durham University SU informed us that: “Importantly, there will be pop-up voter registration stations. Students simply need to bring along their National Insurance number and they can register to vote there and then. The events will be headed up with two political debates involving the candidates in the Durham city and Stockton South constituencies on the evenings of 20 and 21 April respectively.”

Would you like to get involved in the events? We are looking for student volunteers to support the activities. You can get involved in a number of ways, from simply sharing messages on social media, through to manning a voter registration station!
