Get Set to Jet Off with EDC’s New Business and Tourism Operations Course!

Starting this September at East Durham College’s Peterlee campus, this new Level 2 programme combines three qualifications in Business, Tourism and Event Planning.

Students on the course will be introduced to a range of exciting career opportunities across multiple industries. You’ll learn all about setting up your own business, as well as learning how to grow your business all the way up to CEO level of a global brand. With some of the leading people in the international travel and tourism industry starting small and growing their business, you too can get your start with expert training from East Durham College.

You can expect to learn many exciting things on this course, including:

  • Enterprise in the Business World – find out everything you’ll need to know about running a business, types of ownership and set about planning your very own business start-up
  • Planning an Event – how does an Events Coordinator carry out their work? You’ll learn how to plan and event, and consider the health and safety requirements of event planning.
  • Market Research and Marketing Methods in Event Planning – learn how to identify your market, and how to apply different marketing techniques to effectively target that market
  • The UK Travel and Tourism Sector - being the fastest growing sector in the UK, the travel and tourism industry and its range of businesses play an important role in the UK economy.  Find out about their roles and responsibilities, how they work together, and the technology used to meet the changing needs of business and leisure passengers

The East Durham College Level 2 Business & Tourism Operations course will also introduce you to several other topics, including Human Resource Planning at Events, Principles of Customer Service, Communication and Customer Service at Events, Sales and Personal Selling and much, much more.

With this course giving you an introduction into Tourism and Business, you can easily move on to additional courses from there, or even go and set up your own business!

You could move on to a Level 3 programme of study at our Peter Jones Enterprise Academy, or you could perhaps move on to study a BTEC L3 Diploma in Travel and Tourism. Beyond that, you may even go on to university to study Business or Travel & Tourism.
