Goalkeeper Training Off To A Flyer
Fri, 2000-06-30 01:00
Yesterday 12 young goalkeepers, aged between 9 and 15, took part in the first ever specialist goalkeeping training programme to be offered to the community by East Durham College.
Chris Errington, goalkeeper coach at East Durham College’s Football Development Centre, and ex-Hartlepool United keeper, held the first in a series of 10 goalkeeping master classes.
Rose Fraser, Sport Development Officer at the College, commented: “We have been overwhelmed by the response to these master classes and this first set of 10 was full within days of announcing the programme.
“We felt there wasn’t enough coaching for goalkeepers, this specific training seems to be neglected until players reach a professional level, so we wanted to put that right. I’m sure these community classes will be a huge success.”
Professional footballers and big name local heroes will be dropping in on some of the sessions to share expert advice and provide extra guidance to the youngsters.
If you are interested in signing up for future goalkeeper training programmes please call Rose Fraser on 0191 518 5565.
Training sessions are held every Monday at the College’s Peterlee Campus, from 4.30pm till 6.00pm and are open to all ages and abilities.
