Governors & Governance
Welcome to the Governance section of the East Durham College website.
Governance is about taking independent and collective decisions to enable the College to cope with change. Governance includes ensuring that these decisions are made by the right people within the right legal and administrative frameworks, following the right procedures and policies.
There is a clear difference between Governance and the day-to-day management of the College’s operations. The Governing Body (also known as the Corporation or Board) is responsible for determining the College’s future strategy and for the overall conduct and oversight of the College’s business. The Principal is responsible for the day-to-day management of the College, working within the broad framework of policies and priorities decided by the Governing Body. The Principal is clearly and directly accountable to the Governors for the performance of the college, in terms of both academic and financial matters.
