This qualification provides the basic procedures involved in cutting men's hair to junior stylist level.

Overview of the course: 

The course is delivered over 8 units. Within each unit there is both practical and written assessment. Practical assessment is completed on paying clients in a realistic salon environment. There are both written, and on-line tests to complete as assessment for theory work. The course is delivered over 7 hours per week including theory, practical and academic tutorial.

Entry requirements: 

Potential learners must have a keen interest in Barbering. Prior skills and understanding is not always necessary. Practical skills will be developed on models and eventually on paying clients. Learners under 19 years of age will need to complete functional skills or GCSE depending on qualifications already achieved.

Topics: 

Topics covered include: Health & Safety, Client Consultation, Promoting Yourself and the Salon, Shampooing and Conditioning Hair, Cutting Men's' Hair, Cutting Facial Hair, Drying Men's' Hair, Cutting Basic Patterns into Hair.

How is the course assessed?: 

Within each unit there is both practical and written assessment. Practical assessment is completed on paying clients in a realistic salon environment. There are both written, and on-line tests to complete as assessment. Throughout the course learners will build a portfolio of evidence.

Further study options after this course: 

There is a direct progression option of Level 3 Barbering.

Free if you are employed and your income is less than £16,009.50
