Achievement of this qualification demonstrates to an employer that you have the skills and knowledge of health & safety, key values, behaviours and also the necessary technical skills to be employed as a junior stylist.
You could continue your training on a Level 2 Hairdressing Apprenticeship, alternatively you may choose to progress onto the Level 2 Technical Certificate for Hair Colouring services.
This qualification could lead to a job as a hairdresser working in one of the following establishments:
• Hairdressing salon
• Blow dry bar
This Level 2 Technical Certificate for Cutting and Styling Services aims to provide you with a range of essential technical practical skills and knowledge, which will equip you to seek either further training or employment as a junior stylist providing cutting and styling services within the hairdressing Industry.
The skills include carrying out services such as; shampooing, conditioning, styling, finishing and setting hair, cutting, plaiting and twisting the hair.
Following successful completion of this qualification you will be qualified to work in a number of employment destinations such as: hairdressing salons, hotels or cruise ships.
This qualification is suitable for anyone over the age of 16years. You don’t need any previous knowledge or
experience to start this qualification.

For the Level 2 Technical Certificate for Cutting and Styling Services the teaching programme you must cover the content detailed in the structure below:
201 Principles and practices of hairdressing and barbering services
202 Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
203 Cut hair using basic techniques
204 Style, set and dress hair
206 Plait and twist hair
To achieve the Level 2 Certificate for Cutting and Styling Services candidates must successfully complete the mandatory assessment components:
009 Level 2 Cutting and Styling Services - Theory exam
010 Level 2 Cutting and Styling Services - Synoptic assignment (Practical exam)
In addition, candidates must achieve the mandatory employer involvement requirement for this qualification before they can be awarded a qualification grade.
822 Employer involvement - 36 hours of work experience
The mode of delivery is through a 1 year programme. This is with a theory end exam and a practical end exam.

If you have been a UK resident for the past 3 years and are under the age of 19 on the 31st August, you will not usually need to pay any course fees.
If you are aged 19-23 on the day your main course starts and do not have a level 2 or above qualification you may not have any fees to pay.
If you do have a level 2 or above qualification or you are aged 24 years or over and employed on the day your main course starts fees for this course are payable. However if you are in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance or Employment Support Allowance in the Work Related Activity Group or other work related benefit and you are undertaking this qualification to find work, your fees may be paid by the Government.

There is a requirement to purchase equipment for this course. The cost of equipment is around £200. Students with limited income can claim up to 75% of these costs. Further information will be sent to you closer to enrolment in August if you are accepted on to the course.
