You could continue your training on a Level 2 Hairdressing Apprenticeship, alternatively you may choose to progress onto the Level 2 Technical Certificate for Hair Colouring services.

This qualification could lead to a job as a hairdresser working in one of the following establishments:
• Hairdressing salon
• Blow dry bar

Overview of the course: 

Level 2 Technical Certificate for Cutting and Styling aims to
provide you with a range of essential and practical skills and
knowledge, which will equip you to seek employment or further
training within the hairdressing Industry.
The skills include carrying out services such as;
Principles of practice of hairdressing
Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
Style, set and finish hair
Cut hair using basic techniques
Plait and twist hair

Entry requirements: 

This qualification is suitable for anyone over the age of 16 years. You don’t need any previous knowledge in Hairdressing or experience to start this qualification. However you will need either English & Maths at grade 3/4 in GCSE. We will also look at adult life skills or previous experience in the hair and beauty sector at L1

Entry onto any course at East Durham College is subject to final approval from the Assistant Principal. Where relevant, the term ‘entry requirements’ also includes DBS checks, references, fitness to practice, etc.

Our entry requirements are in place to support our students in achieving the qualifications they have chosen to study. Following changes in the assessment and grading of GCSE’s as a result of Covid-19, all new full-time students will be regularly assessed by East Durham College at an early stage in their study programme. This is to ensure that students are enrolled onto courses which suit their abilities – following assessment, there may be occasions when learners are transferred to a relevant course at a higher or lower level in order to ensure they are enrolled onto the right course for them to achieve success.

Topics: 

Learners interested in the Level 2 Technical Certificate for Cutting and Styling services will study theory aspects of the subject and apply them to practical tasks.

Compulsory topics include:
• Principles of practice of hairdressing
• Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
• Style, set and finish hair
• Cut hair using basic techniques

How is the course assessed?: 

To gain this qualification, candidates must successfully achieve the following assessments:
• One externally set, externally moderated assignment
• One externally set, externally marked exam, sat under examination conditions

Further study options after this course: 

You could continue your training in the 2nd year onto a Level 2 Technical Certificate for Hair Colouring Services, a L2 Hairdressing Apprenticeship, you may then choose to progress onto the Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Hairdressing or a Hairdressing Apprenticeship at L3.

The mode of delivery is through a 1 year programme with practical & theory components, employer involvement, external and internal.
