Stephanie Hall, aged 19, from Peterlee, has recently been presented with the Work Based Learning Student of the Month Award at East Durham College.
Donna McHale, Employer Responsive Officer at the College, said: “Stephanie made excellent progress throughout her Apprenticeship, showing great enthusiasm at all times.
“However, part of the Apprenticeship Programme includes Maths and English skills and Stephanie found the Maths element really tough. So I nominated her for this award, as apart from excelling in the hairdressing element, she worked so hard and never gave up in her efforts to get the Maths qualification that she found so difficult.”
Stephanie originally came to the College after finishing her GCSEs and completed a full time hairdressing qualification. As part of that course she did a work placement at Hair Changez in Wheatley Hill – and so impressed the owner, she was offered a full time job as an Apprentice at the Salon.
Hair Changez owner Tracey Wood said: “Stephanie has a great attitude to work and smashing personality. She fitted in really well with me and the rest of the staff. She was always on time and a very keen worker.
“We’d had other good people on placement but Stephanie really shone out – she’s a very impressive 19-year-old and a real asset to the business.”
But Stephanie is not stopping there, she is now enrolled at the College studying part time towards a Level 3 Barbering qualification.
