East Durham College is proud to announce it has recently received the seal of approval from the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) for its higher education provision.

The College had the Integrated Quality and Enhancement Review (IQER) back in December, which was conducted by the QAA – the body responsible for inspecting the provision for all Higher Education (HE) establishments in the UK.

The IQER visit was conducted by academics from the Swansea University and Manchester College well as a QAA representative who all gave East Durham College their full approval to continue to deliver HE provision.

The College passed all three core sections of the QAA’s inspection, which assessed academic standards, quality of learning opportunity and the reliability of public information - and the inspection team also highlighted a number of good practices that the College undertakes to enhance the quality of its HE provision.

Fred Harrison, Assistant Principal with responsibility for Higher Education at the College, said: “The College has a proven track record of success and this formal recognition of the high quality of our HE provision is fantastic news.

“The IQER result confirms that the academic standards, rigour and quality of our HE provision are comparable with every other HE establishment in the UK.

“I would like to congratulate and thank everyone at the College and at our awarding body institutions for their ongoing hard work, dedication and commitment.”

In partnership with the University of Sunderland, the College offers a number of Foundation Degrees in subjects such as Sport & Exercise, Music and Education & Care.

Sue Reece who is Director of Student Recruitment & Business Partnerships at the University of Sunderland as well as Chair of the Corporation at the College added: “This is an excellent result for the college demonstrating that a high quality university experience is being delivered in East Durham.”
