As enrolment for EDC's Houghall campus quickly approaches (enrolment dates: 27th-29th August 2019) let’s look back at our lovely Houghall campus over the years! ⠀ ⠀ The main entrance was freshly built in 1937/38, where 1938 saw the opening of the main Houghall college buildings, though, the Houghall farm has marked the foundations for agricultural education long before the campus itself was built. ⠀ ⠀ Fast forward to 2016, a 28 stable equine centre alongside small animal and agricultural centres were built and opened, as well as new science labs and IT suites, with enhanced access and parking facilities. Houghall operates on a 476-acre estate including a full working farm. It facilitates a 22-bay dog kennel unit, a commercial dog grooming studio, floristry studios, horticulture labs, arboriculture workshops, specialist veterinary and nursing facilities, a well equipped learning resources centre and so so sooo much more! ⠀ ⠀ After many years of teaching and learning, thousands upon thousands of students have passed through the halls on their journeys though land based training/education and gone on to pursue great things! ⠀ ⠀ The college has expanded, changed and developed over the years but its statement still stands strong...Houghall is Where Careers Grow!⠀ ⠀ To read more about the History of the Houghall campus pre 1937-38 click here https://buff.ly/2Mh9yXY ... and to see the wide range of facilities Houghall currently owns and runs click here! https://buff.ly/2H65u8S⠀ ⠀ ...So, have you decided you want to study here yet? find out more about our current Houghall campus courses here! https://buff.ly/2Kx4jQy ⠀ -⠀ -⠀ -⠀ #agriculture #agriculturelife #agricultureworldwide #agricultureworld #agriculturelandscape #agricultureweek #agriculturestudent #agricultureeducation #farming #farminglife #farminguk #education #landbased #training #learning #college
As well as an extensive and challenging refurbishment of the main entrance front building, which was built in 1937/8, the completion of the project saw a number of stunning new facilities open September 2016; including a brand-new small animal care centre, agricultural centre, equine centre, brand new science labs and IT suites, and new enhanced access and parking facilities.
The development project was made possible following the college receiving £10m capital investment funding from The North East Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) which it secured from the Government’s Local Growth Fund.
The purpose-built Small Animal Care Centre houses a range of small mammals, birds, reptiles and aquatics - as well as a new commercial dog grooming salon and 22-bay dog kennel unit, complete with dog agility and dog walking areas.
The stunning new Houghall Equine Centre boasts a 28-stable block accommodation, training workshops, tack room, automatic horse-walker and an international-standard 40m x 40m indoor arena to complement an existing 60m x 40m all-weather menage, cross-country trail, schooling field and 20-acre paddock.
The new Agricultural Centre includes a pig unit and cattle unit with forage store to supplement the existing sheep unit down at the farm site.
Each new and refurbished building also boasts additional classroom/workshop space, staff and student changing facilities and welfare support areas.
