East Durham College Student Kimberley Carr recently won the Animal Care Award at the College’s February Student Awards ceremony.

Kimberley, aged 43 from Cramlington, is studying on a Level 3 Diploma in Animal Care course.

Head of Animal Care John Reid said: “Kimberley’s attendance and punctuality are very good. She completes every assignment on time and at Distinction level.  Kim has a work placement at a Veterinary Practice who speaks very highly of her skills, reliability and professionalism.  Kim acts as a mentor for some of the younger students.

“Kim has been selected by Colchester Zoo to spend 4 weeks on a game reserve in South Africa where she will be part of a team carrying out conservation work.  Kim is paying for her flights and accommodation, but feels this is too good a chance to miss.  She had to attend an interview at the zoo before she was selected.”
