Farming and Agriculture has been a major part of Bob Shaw’s working life. As Agriculture Lecturer here at Houghall he enjoys working in many different aspects of agriculture using farming methods both traditional and modern. With a keen interest in the countryside and environmental issues Bob has taken on roles within various committees including Secretary and Founder Member of Lakeland Shearers which is the biggest one day shearing competition in UK and also Founder Member and Chairman of the National Alpaca Shearers Association. Bob thoroughly enjoys teaching the next generation of Farmers and we are delighted to announce a range of new agricultural short courses including, lambing, sheep shearing, sheep dog training and small holders course
No entry requirements
Bob has 40 years experience working with sheep dogs especially bearded collies and has entered many sheep dog trials over the years. Within this practical course you will learn to instruct your dog to run left, right, stop, fetch and pen in field. Every dog is different so the course will cater for each Shepherd and dog individually. In-lamb ewes will not be used although different types of sheep will be used. It is expected that all dogs are on good command, however any rough dog will be asked to leave, [any injuries sustained will be charged at cost] All dogs must be on a lead when not on field, working. Lessons will be on 20min sessions, 3 sessions for each dog and handler.
