College Certificate in Grave Digging (Manual & Machinery)
This course covers the practical skills and knowledge required by a gravedigger, both manual and mechanical skills. On completion of this course you would have the practical skills and knowledge to manually dig a grave and hold an NPTC Safe use of Plant and machinery Certificate of Competence, allowing you to mechanically dig a grave.
A practical course - 4 days. Over the four days you will learn about the grave digging process from start to finish, including aftercare of the grave. Day one will be in the classroom learning about all of the regulations attached to this subject, days 2 & 3 will be mechanical machinery training, day 4 will be the manually digging of a grave. A practical assessment for the Mechanical Machinery will be on the day following the completion of training.
There are no formal entry requirements
All aspects of practical and machine grave digging.
1. State the Health and Safety requirements in Cemeteries
2. Demonstrate the general requirements of Grave Digging
3. Pre Excavation preparation
4. Know the types of shoring
5. Preparation for internment
6. State and undertake the duties of the grave digger on the day of the funeral
7. Back filling and removal of shoring and state procedures for aftercare of graves
8. State the Health & Safety implications involved in the exhumation of graves
External practical assessment by NPTC for Plant and Machinery, The manual grave digging aspect will be assessed during the course by practical activities.
4 full days - practical.
