The Award in Emergency Tree Work Operations is a level 3 course designed for people who want to advance their career and those arboricultural workers, tree surgeons, forestry workers who have had some experience in the industry due to the dangers involves and the practice needed in reading the stress and strains in felling trees.

Overview of the course: 

With the country experiencing climate shift and more severe weather conditions are more severe with each passing year, more trees are being uprooted. The Award in Emergency Tree Work Operations training course will provide you with the appropriate techniques and safety guidelines to assist you in being more confident and capable of dealing with trees in emergency situations.
This practical course will enable candidates to correctly state the regulations and safety requirements relating to chainsaw use and assess the hazards and risks involved. By assessing lying windblown timber, partially windblown and broken timber, the candidate will be able to take a decision on appropriate action and cut the timber using appropriate techniques and control the movement of root plates.
This course has physical demands and requires the carrying and movement of equipment in woodland and forest environments.

Entry requirements: 

Award in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross Cutting (CS30), Award in Felling and Processing Trees up to 380mm (CS31) or Award in Ground Based Chainsaw Operation (CS30 & CS31).


This 3 day practical course will cover;
Safe Working procedures / risk assessments
Emergency procedures
Importance of communication within the team
Current Health and Safety legislation
Making the area safe
Work in a safe and consistent manner
Securing of the root plate
Use of a winch
Carry out assisted felling operation

How is the course assessed?: 

The course is assessed by a external practical assessment by NPTC the day after training.

Further study options after this course: 

Additional practical units can be added to further industry skills.
