College Seeks New Governors - January 2011

East Durham College would like to invite new applicants to apply to join their Board of Governors.

Stuart Wesselby, Principal and CEO, explained: “By joining the Board you can make an important contribution to a thriving College and directly impact on the development of future training, making sure learners gain the skills required by today’s employers and industry.

“The Board of Governors plays a key role in deciding the overall strategic direction and educational character of the College.”

The College is keen to receive applications from people of all ages and cultural backgrounds. You may have experience in business, charity work, legal practice, or even be an entrepreneur.

The College would particularly welcome applications from people with agricultural, community, business or financial backgrounds.

Mr Wesselby added: “This is a voluntary role and Governors don’t receive any pay. However the role brings many social and professional rewards, such as boardroom experience helping you make a positive step towards your long-term career development.”

Governors will be expected to attend meetings of the Board held once a month (except in August) and at least two training sessions a year.
