Studio School Bid Update - March 2013
Sun, 2002-03-03 00:00
On Friday 1 March, we found out that we have an interview for the next stage of our exciting studio school application!
Many staff at East Durham College and the Academy at Shotton Hall have been working hard with local employers to create this special type of school right here in Peterlee. If we pass this next stage interview we'll be another step closer to becoming one of the first places in the region to have a studio school which would offer a different type of educational pathway to 14 to 19 year olds, helping to fill skills shortages and raise aspirations.
Studio schools are unique because they offer students a chance to gain GCSE qualifications including maths, English and science, but with the added benefit of gaining vocational qualifications alongside these. Students work in a realistic working environment and also team up with local employers to get real hands on work experience - 'rooting learning in the real world'.
Our interview is next Monday 11 March and we'll let everyone know the outcome as soon as we can - wish us luck!
