An equine student at the region’s leading land based and animal care training college has recently been singled out for high praise by her lecturers.
Full time student Laura Stewart, aged 17, from Darlington, has just won a Student Award Prize for her hard work since starting at East Durham College’s Houghall Campus last September.
Laura, who went to Hummersknott School in Darlington, enrolled on a Level 2 Diploma in Horse Care at the Durham-based college and has never looked back.
Chloe Walker, Head of Equine Studies, said: “Laura has a great attitude and has been demonstrating some excellent skills, particularly learning to complete tasks using her own initiative, working quickly and efficiently.
“Laura has been completing extra rota sessions to help get all her practical tasks completed to a good standard and to gain more experience.
“She has displayed very good riding skills and ability to work well with a variety of horses. Laura gets on very well with all her peers and supports other students in her group. Well done on this thoroughly deserved award.”
Laura said: “The course is really good, I enjoy both practical and theory sessions but particularly like the riding. I’ve made loads of friends on the course and they’re mint!
“After this course I hope to continue studying at the College on the Level 3. I’m not totally sure exactly what I’d like to do after that but it will definitely be horse related.”
