The Main Event - Brand New Events & Hospitality Course Launches at East Durham College
Tue, 14/05/2019 - 14:01
Launching September 2019, this new study programme is designed to help you develop the key skills, knowledge and experience you'll need to gain employment in the highly popular (and ever-expanding!) hospitality and events management industry.
Why Consider Hospitality and Events Management?
As well as being an exciting and rewarding career path where you get to potentially plan and be involved with a wide range of different events, qualified people are in demand in this particular sector.
Recent data published by Visit County Durham shows that there is a significant skills gap in the hospitality and events industries. This means that are plenty of job opportunities for those with the right skills, just like you will be when you leave EDC with a qualification in Hospitality and Events management!
This would enable you to progress from college into an exciting career with a range of organisations. There's countless options just here in the North East such as Seaham Hall, Beamish Museum, Hotel Indigo and many others, but you could also find yourself working anywhere in the world!
What Will You Study?
The events and hospitality course consists of a wide variety of modules and study programmes, including:
- The hospitality industry
- Principles of supervising customer service performance in hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism
- Food and drink service
- Providing customer service in hospitality
- Alcoholic beverage service
- The principles of nutrition for healthier food and special diets
- Events organisation in hospitality
- Marketing for hospitality
- Personal selling and promotional skills for hospitality
You'll also get a real flavour for working in this industry too, as students are required to complete a minimum of 36 hours of work experience as part of their study programme.
