Achieving a Functional Skills or GCSE qualification is a stepping stone into many types of education and employment. Many universities requires you to have at least a Functional Skills Level 2 qualification 4 and above in GCSE to be accepted onto a graduate course. Similarly many employers now require you to have some level of English qualification to demonstrate you have the necessary reading, writing and communication skills needed in the work place.

Overview of the course: 

The course is delivered in class-based taught sessions, supported by use of our online learning environment (Moodle). You will attend for two hours per week and be expected to complete one hour of independent learning per week. The sessions are available during daytime and on an evening to help you access the course at convenient time.

Entry requirements: 

There are no formal entry requirements to the course but it is expected that you will be sitting an initial assessment during enrolment to identify appropriate level for you to enrol on.

Topics: 

You will study Functional Skills and GCSE English which includes practical development of spelling, punctuation and grammar skills alongside your presentation skills through speaking and listening assessment.

How is the course assessed?: 

You will be assessed in during the year for Functional Skills and in summer for GCSE.

Further study options after this course: 

After successfully completing the appropriate level you can progress onto the next level. You can also progress onto GCSE English after achieving Functional Skills Level 2.
