GCSE English Language (Fast Track) January 2019
Achieving a GCSE is a stepping stone into many types of education and employment. Many universities requires you to have at level 2 qualification in English, preferably at GCSE, to be accepted onto a graduate course. Similarly many employers now require you to have some level of English qualification to demonstrate you have the necessary reading, writing and communication skills needed in the work place.
The course is delivered in class-based taught sessions, supported by use of our online learning environment (Moodle). You will attend for three hours per week and be expected to complete one hour of independent learning per week. The sessions take place from 6-9pm on a Thursday evening.
As this course is a fast track option you will be required to complete a substantial amount of independent study and to attend all classes.
There are no formal entry requirements to the course but it is expected that you will be sitting an initial assessment during enrolment to identify appropriate level for you to enrol on. If after the initial assessment GCSE is not the most appropriate qualification for you at time you could be offered a place on one of our Functional Skills courses. Entry onto any course at East Durham College is subject to final approval from the Assistant Principal. Where relevant, the term ‘entry requirements’ also includes DBS checks, references, fitness to practice, etc.
You will study the Eduqas English 9-1 specification.
You will be assessed through two exams in June and through a speaking and listening assessment (completed in class).
Fast track - 16 weeks from January to June.
